Thank you for including us in the DE LEON reunion. My wife's family decends from Martin DE LEON' daughter Candelaria, who married Jose Miguel Aderete. God Bless You all for putting this important Historical event together.

Dearest Cousin Blanche: I am very happy with the planning that you and the rest of the small group are doing for the 2011 Reunion.

I am looking forward to meeting other members of our large family.

Hey Rose, thank you for posting on the website! Just so everyone understands, the small group just decided on the date only. I plan to use this website to field input to the reunion activities, the purpose of this 1st blog. This is new to many I am sure, hang with it, it gets better with time! Please help generate interest in the planning and success of this reunion by passing the word and forwarding the site address to all primos and primas. Encourage all to make their presence known.
I plan a visit to the Valley before the summer is through.

A family reunion? Sounds fantastic!

Please encourage family members to (1) bring precious family photos, and (2) bring a scanner. With some effort and planning, an electronic family photo album would be an lovely keepsake.

Cleo also offerred these suggestions SOME IDEAS:

It may be worthwhile to ask local businesses and/or schools (ie UHV or MHS or DeLeon Elementary) to sponsor/support the event... companies/schools could donate the computer stations/labs... or reduce rental fees...

Also, why not involve the DeLeon Club of Victoria? or local historians/geneologists/scrapbookers to give a seminars on history etc? Why not invite Anna Castillo Crimm?

A friend of mine had a photo booth set up at their wedding reception. Everyone got to take home their own little photo strip... and afterwards the negatives were collected and turned into a beautiful collage. I think this could be applied to a family reunion event... imagine a collage of fresh de Leon faces!

Encourage families to bring laptops and/or USBDrives containing scanned photos to share with others.... or for the hard copy folk... Bring a scanner and a DVD/CD burner & encourage family members to bring precious family photos. For a small donation, an electronic family photo album would be a great keepsake. Also, If you set up computer stations, GEDCOM files could be shared and augmented.

Set up a place to share reading lists of books/movies etc about the de Leon family and other Tejanos lost to history.

Set up an area for elders to chat and pass on their stories... (set up recording equipment to capture it all).

Get mailing list, both snail mail and email to keep in touch and mail off keepsakes.

Thanks Cleo, suggestions like this is what we need to help with the planning.

IDEA...De Leon Family Recipe Book...
All the "techno" ideas are nice but how bout an old fashion family recipe book.
FOOOOOD! Isn't that what a family reunion is mostly about?
My 3 contributions are: 7 layer bean dip, homemade crunchy crust Hawaiian Pizza, and last but not least, stuffed whole wheat corn muffins.

Yes, I know, I'm another De Leon on a "diet" and hope to loose 20 by the reunion so that I can play Don Martin De Leon "dress-up". Fit into that short vaquero jacket and dye my side burns and mustache. Look out..hoping to WIN! the Don Martin Look-a-Like contest.

God Bless the De Leon Family.
DE LEON... a state of mind!

Oh yes... dress up. My older brother and I were just commenting about that...

About the photos, there are online services such as
* http://www.ShutterFly.com or
* http://www.SnapFish.com

We could set up an account for the reunion. The online service allows you to store images (for free), order prints and/or printed books (for a fee).

More suggestions...

Each of Martin's children's families can be represented by a different color and the family members would wear that color shirt for the reunion.

Electronic copies of original birth certificates, baptismal certificates, marriage certificates, etc. could be brought to the reunion to be archived on a common website. Paper copies could be brought and scanned at the reunion for archival purposes.

Photographs of family cemetary headstones digital or paper copies could be shared with other members of the family.

I got the invitation for the DeLeon reunion in the mail two days ago, and so did some of my siblings, some didn't if you need addresses I will provide them. We are excited about the reunion. Our family just had a reunion this Easter of 2009. We managed to collect many addresses. My family has always kept up with our DeLeon relative and try to invite them to every family event. We have photos and a family tree one of my aunts made many, many years ago. Good Luck Blanche. I just wish I would of known about the meeting in Harlingen. Sorry I missed it.

My wife Mary Ann (Stoner) is a Great great great great granddaughter of Martin DeLeon through Martin's son Felix Santiago, his son Santiago, his daughter Abelina, and Abelina's daughter Guadalupe Salome Noll (Mary Ann's grandmother). Genealogy has been a hobby of mine for many years and we look forward to meeting the DeLeon side of Mary Ann's family in April 2011. If any of you have corrections or additions to my DeLeon information, please email them to me.
Regards from Virginia Beach, VA.
