Wow! I am impressed. Beautiful history regarding the history of Texas in develompent with all the contributions of your decendants. It is amazing that even today a small number of people are capable of major changes that effect the lives of many.

Our relatives in Laredo, TX would call our great-grandmother... Mama Lala. Her name was Candelaria. Her married name was Barrera and her maiden name was de Leon. My father's name was Manuel Barrera. He wrote a book with the title "And Then The Gringos Came". It was a story about the De Leon Legacy which continues. Thank you for the well wishes for my mother and brother.

I was around 11 yrs. old when I attended the Don Martin De Leon Dedication Ceremony in Victoria, TX. in 1972. It would be wonderful to see the De Leon relatives. I am a descendant of Agapito De Leon. My parents are Manuel Barrera and Jeannette Targarona.

Its great to know about this website and the reunion that will take place in 2011! My grandfather Alfredo Rodriguez de Leon put together a family tree years ago, but I've always wanted to learn more about the family history! I found out about this site through an aunt of mine who is also a descendant. Silvestre de Leon was Martin's son and his son was Francisco de Leon. Marcos de Leon followed and then Aurora de Leon, who was my grandfather's mother. I've never had the opportunity to visit Victoria, TX but I would truly love to be there for the reunion!!
I am the son of Josefina Sandoval De Leon, daughther to Porfirio y Ma de la Luz De Leon from Cruillas, Tamaulipas. Son to Porfirio De Leon, Sr (papa grande). Siblings, Adrea, Anastacia, Celia, Rafael De leon. As a small boy he used to take me to Cruillas, Burgos, and Rancho Nuevo, Tamaulipas. I am so proud of my grandpa. The more I found out about our bloodline the prouder it makes me to be a De Leon. I am looking forward to attend the family reunion. I want my son to learn who we are and were we come from. So, he can be proud as I am.

Blanche, it was so good meeting you in Goliad at Dr. de la Tejas's lecture and book signing. I sincerely appreciated being introduced to you by Ruben Garza. I was also delighted to meet other members of the De Leon family during the opening reception of the "Spanish Legacy" Exhibit at the Museum of the Coastal Bend in 2008. Members of the family that I met included Joel de Leon from McAllen and Elizabeth "Lisa" de Leon from Austin. Here's wishing everyone a fun family reunion!

Blanche et al: This is so wonderful. I heard about this from my cousin, Diana Beyer Zimmer, who, I believe,is planning to attend this event, as she lives in the Victoria area and is anxious to learn more about her family history.
My Mother was Lillian Josephine Arnold Campbell Hager, daughter of Guadalupe Salome Noll and Leo Arnold. Mi abuelita/My Grandmother, Guadalupe, was a direct descendant of Don Martin DeLeon.
Having only been apprised of this just late today (yesterday), I'll need to think about it and make a decision in haste, as the deadline is upon us, this being the 6th.

We are looking forward to meeting everyone, especially descendants of Silvestre. My wife and children are 9th and 10th generation descendants of Martin de Leon, descended from Silvestre, through his son, Martin Jr., his daughter Francisca de Leon who married Meliton Rodriguez Hinojosa, and their son Bartolo Rodriguez de Leon of Tampico MX, and his son Rafael Rodriguez Saunders. We now live in Virginia. We have never been to Victoria nor have we met any other branches of the family beyond our closer counsins who are descendants of Francisca de Leon in Mexico and the US.
We are descendants of Jaunita Benavides. Her father is Ysidro Benavides.
Our parents are Jesus and Matianita Carbajal Bermudes.
We received this web page address, and information about the reunion from our cousin Dolores Soliz. She resides in Victoria,Tx.

My name is Spencer Herrera and am originally from Houston. I was recently doing some research on the town of Victoria, TX and read about the De León family.
I am hoping someone here could be of help. My great-grandmother, Simona Galaviz, was born on 9-28-1910 in Welder, TX near Gonzales and Luling. Her mother was Antonia De León and her maternal grandparents were Leandro De León and Tomasa Villarreal.
I’m trying to find what connection, if any, does my great, great, great grandfather, Leandro De León, have to the founding De León family in this part of Texas. If you have any information that could possibly help or be able to point me in the right direction, I would be very appreciative.
